Photography Books Recommendations: IMHO

These are photography books that I’ve read and my reviews in my humble opinion (IMHO):

Bryan Peterson’s Understanding Photography Field Guide by Bryan Peterson

A very good book for beginning photographer. Each page is filled with beautiful and well composed pictures with accompanying explanation that is not too overwhelming. Bryan has a way to explain the technical and artistic side of his pictures briefly and clearly. He also recommended some photography practices that will help the reader develop the eye to see, and to take not just the correct exposure but the creatively correct exposure.

I learned a lot beyond the technicality of photography (which is the easy part) from this book. You will still gain something out of this book even after reading it many times.

Verdict: Highly Recommended!

The Digital Photography Book by Scott Kelby

This was the first book that I read. Scott makes his point clearly. Simple. Straightforward. But, that’s the problem (sorry Scott. But you are still a great photographer). It’s too simple.

It is still a great book. Scott would make one main point on each page with an accompanying brief paragraph, which is great! He gave valuable advice on prep for a wedding shoot, monopods, etc. Very good practical gems that was learned the hard way.

Verdict: Recommended.

A World in HDR by Trey Ratcliff (aka Stuck in Customs)

I’m a sucker for HDR. Nuff said. Buy this book. Not really a how-to or guide book, although Trey discussed his HDR post processing technique (also available from his website here). Readers can still learn a lot about composition form Trey’s pictures.

Verdict: Highly Recommended!
